Lucas Bravo Weight Gain – The Real Story Behind Gabriel’s Changing Body on Emily in Paris

When Gabriel enters a scene in Season 4 of Emily in Paris, there is a subtle but noticeable change. Not the illumination. Not the viewpoint of the camera. He is the one. The French actor Lucas Bravo, who was discussed in glossy magazine close-ups and thirst-tweet threads for the better part of three seasons, appears to have changed physically. He is fuller in the face and broader in the shoulders, less like the sculpted catalogue fantasy of Season 1 and more like a real man who has been living his life. The internet did what it does, and fans took notice right away.

The conversation was predictable and nearly evenly divided. One camp was perplexed and practically in mourning, making remarks about the disappearance of their “handsome chef.” The opposing camp, which is perhaps more intriguing, hardly flinched. Someone bluntly commented on Instagram, “He’s still hot,” and it seemed like a more sincere response than those expressing indignation over someone who has only changed in appearance over the past four years.

The way Bravo has discussed the physical change and what it reveals about the emotional and physical costs of being a male heartthrob in the streaming era are just as important as the physical change itself. He’s talked about realizing the weight shift and even being taken aback when his chef’s uniform didn’t fit the way it used to during the Season 4 return. A performer acknowledging his own body with the same mixture of surprise and resignation that most regular people would recognize from trying on jeans they haven’t worn in a year has an uncommonly honest quality.

The change didn’t end there. The production leaned into it by Season 5. Gabriel’s “beefed-up” new appearance was described in reports and promotional materials, indicating that the show chose to work with Bravo’s altered physique rather than around it. That’s a fair decision. Gabriel works as a chef. He is passionate, physical, and ambitious. It’s unlikely that a man who has been putting in sixty-hour work weeks in a Parisian kitchen will stay permanently slender, as early-season television requires of its romantic leads.

The somewhat dramatic “WTF happened to him” remarks made by fans at first might speak more about the unrealistic baseline than Bravo. When a man’s entire cultural value is associated with a particular physical type, any departure from that type is perceived as a loss rather than an improvement. That’s worth considering, especially since female actors on similar shows are frequently subjected to the same scrutiny and seldom receive the “he’s still hot” defense from the majority of commenters.

Watching Bravo handle this with what appears to be a calm, collected approach is truly remarkable. He didn’t seem to be in a crisis about it by the time he walked the red carpet in Los Angeles in May 2025. He had longer hair and a full beard, and he didn’t resemble the clean-shaven Gabriel who made him famous. The change appeared intentional. Although opinions among fans were once again divided, many of the remarks focused on topics that were more amicable than those discussed in Season 4. “You look more like a man now,” someone commented. Depending on how you feel about the original version of him, you may or may not interpret that as a compliment.

It’s obvious that Bravo hasn’t been avoiding the subject because he has openly discussed body issues. In a refreshingly direct framing that avoids the typical “I did it for the role” deflection, he has linked his decision to appear nude on screen to issues of equality. He seems to have given careful thought to what it means to have a public body and what responsibilities, if any, that entails.

Later in 2025, Season 5 is anticipated to debut on Netflix. Lucas Bravo’s physical transformation has already emerged as one of the more genuine, human storylines associated with Emily in Paris, regardless of whether the show deals with Gabriel’s altered appearance narratively or moves past it. Notably, it took place completely off-screen.
