Danone USA Frozen Dessert Recall: Your Favorite Dairy-Free Pint May Have Rocks In It

Reaching into the freezer for a dairy-free treat and briefly wondering if there might be a rock inside is incredibly unsettling. This week, Danone USA voluntarily recalled its So Delicious Dairy Free® Salted Caramel Cluster Non-Dairy Frozen Dessert pints, putting thousands of American consumers in that predicament. The explanation is that the cashew pieces may be contaminated with tiny stones and other hard foreign objects. It’s not precisely what you would anticipate crunching into on a Tuesday night.

The fact that this recall isn’t the first time makes it especially noticeable and, to be honest, a little difficult to ignore. The Salted Caramel Cluster flavor has been the focus of a nationwide recall for the second time in less than a year, with nearly identical contamination concerns.

The initial recall occurred in December of 2025. At the time, Danone claimed that the problem had been found and fixed. It didn’t seem to have been, at least not entirely. A corporate statement doesn’t fully address the questions raised by that kind of repetition.

Pints bearing SKU 136603 and UPC 744473476138 that have best-by dates on or before April 3, 2028, are currently under recall. Major national retailers like Target and Whole Foods carried the product. No other So Delicious Dairy Free® codes, products, or flavors are impacted. For someone who has already consumed half a pint without any problems and isn’t sure how fortunate they were, that is a small mercy, but it doesn’t bring much solace.

The key component that distinguishes the Salted Caramel Cluster variety—toasted cashew pieces layered through a salted caramel swirl and finished with chocolatey flakes—is the cashew inclusions at the heart of this problem. This product has received positive reviews and is well-liked by the increasing number of consumers who avoid dairy products due to ethical or dietary concerns.

Over the past ten years, the market for non-dairy frozen desserts has grown significantly, and one of its more well-known brands is So Delicious, which Danone purchased years ago. Even though the company hasn’t disclosed the reason for the recurrence, it is noteworthy that this specific flavor continues to experience sourcing or processing issues with its cashews.

The language used in Danone’s most recent recall statement is almost identical to that used in December; it promises to work quickly with retail partners to remove impacted products and notes that the problem has once again been found and fixed. This time, the issue might actually be resolved. However, it is understandable for customers to be dubious after reading the same guarantees twice in nine months. Two identical recalls in the same product cycle are the kind of thing that sticks in people’s minds because trust in food brands is developed slowly and lost quickly.

Danone notified the FDA of the problem after consumer complaints prompted the recall. It is recommended that anyone who has the contaminated product at home refrain from consuming it. The So Delicious Dairy Free Consumer Care Line, which is open Monday through Friday during regular business hours, can be contacted for refunds and replacement coupons at 1-833-367-8975.

The idea of biting down on a small stone is not a minor inconvenience, but it’s not the most dramatic recall in recent memory—no serious injuries have been reported. Dental damage is real, and the stakes are higher than they may initially seem for anyone who already has dental work done.

The precise point in the supply chain where the contamination is entering is still unknown. Cashews can be challenging to thoroughly screen at scale due to the way they are harvested and processed, which frequently takes place in facilities abroad before being packaged and shipped. That doesn’t make the issue go away, but it does help explain why it might continue even after a business thinks it has resolved the issue. As this develops, it seems possible that the production line fix was applied without thoroughly auditing the upstream sourcing. It remains to be seen if Danone looks into that possibility more thoroughly this time.

Check the bottom of your pint for the time being. Put it down and give it a call if the best-by date is April 3, 2028, or earlier.
