Amy Schumer Weight Loss Ozempic Journey: Why She Quit and What She Switched To

Amy Schumer has never been one to soften the edges of her own narrative. Therefore, it felt less like a celebrity health confession and more like something a friend might tell you over coffee when she began discussing Ozempic—not to praise it, but to describe being flattened by it. The kind of candor that is nearly uncomfortable because it doesn’t fit the tidy story that people were hoping for.

The fundamental facts are thoroughly recorded. About three years ago, Schumer tried Ozempic and quickly lost thirty pounds. By most accounts, it was effective. However, she has noted that her pregnancy was especially difficult because of a gene called GDF15, which makes some people abnormally prone to nausea. And Ozempic struck that weakness hard for Schumer.

She talked about being confined to bed. Not worn out, not a little off—bedridden. vomiting, exhausted, and unable to accomplish much. She recalled a particular incident that stuck during an appearance on Howard Stern’s SiriusXM show in early 2025: her son Gene asking if she could play tag and her lying there, truly unable to get up. She asked, “What’s the point?” She acknowledged that she had lost thirty pounds and looked fantastic, but she was unable to raise her head from the pillow. She was unwilling to continue making that trade-off.

It’s worth taking a moment to consider that. Many people find success with Ozempic. The results in clinical settings are noteworthy, the science is real, and the side effects are tolerable for many users. However, Schumer’s story serves as a reminder that there is no one-size-fits-all approach to medicine, and genetics can make a widely praised medication truly intolerable for some people. She wasn’t acting overly dramatic. She was talking about a particular aspect of her biology.

What she said about the culture surrounding these drugs is also noteworthy. In a 2023 appearance on Watch What Happens Live, she criticized public figures and celebrities who claimed their changes were due to “smaller portions” and discipline. Her stance was straightforward: be truthful. She claimed to have had liposuction. She was pointing out that silence and ambiguous deflection have serious repercussions for regular people attempting to comprehend their own bodies and options, not asking for praise for that transparency.

Ozempic was not the end of the story. Schumer disclosed in December 2024 that she had been diagnosed with Cushing syndrome, a condition brought on by prolonged excess cortisol that resulted in noticeable facial puffiness. For months, the internet had cruelly conjectured about this diagnosis. She wrote that she lost weight because she had a disease that could have killed her, not because she wanted to look different. The context is important. People’s discussions about her weight loss were never really motivated by vanity.

Eventually, she moved to a different GLP-1 drug called Mounjaro, and the difference was dramatic. She stated that everything was going well in a video she posted at the beginning of 2025. There was no performance, no dramatics before or after, just an update. She started sharing bikini pictures from what looked to be a yacht on Instagram in the summer of 2026, captioning them “no filter as per ushe.” It wasn’t exactly a triumphant caption. It sounded more like relief.

This story can be presented as a straightforward warning about Ozempic or as a heartwarming tale about discovering the appropriate drug. Both versions are less truthful than Schumer’s. After trying something that almost destroyed her everyday life, she stopped, found something else, battled a severe illness, and recovered. The bikini isn’t the main focus of the pictures. They are about continuing to exist to take them.
