Chrissy Metz Weight Loss – How She Dropped 100 Pounds Walking Just 20 Minutes a Day

Chrissy Metz doesn’t have a happy memory of one particular birthday. Instead of celebrating her 30th birthday in 2010, she ended up having a panic attack, the kind that stops you cold and makes you face your own problems. That moment would pass for many. It became the starting line for Metz.

What came next was extraordinary by most standards. In less than five months, she shed one hundred pounds. No intricate program, no injections, no surgery. Just a 20-minute walk and a daily diet of 2,000 calories. That’s all. It sounds almost too good to be true, and perhaps that’s why people are still talking about it—both because it was successful and because it didn’t last as long as she had hoped.

For the majority of her life, Metz has been bearing the burden of this tale, both literally and figuratively. She wrote about being the youngest person in a Weight Watchers room at age 11, forced weigh-ins by her stepfather, and food becoming entangled with shame before she even had the vocabulary to comprehend why in her 2018 memoir This Is Me. In 2024, she publicly questioned, “Why does my weight equate my worthiness?” reflecting on her experience navigating all of that as a 12-year-old. That question lacks a definitive answer. Most likely, there won’t be.

The city didn’t exactly help her when she relocated to Los Angeles in her twenties to pursue an acting career. There was no work coming in. Rejections accumulated. She talked about eating her emotions, gaining more than 100 pounds, and witnessing the widening gap between her true self and what Hollywood wanted her to be. Her recovery may have been delayed by years due to the specific cruelty of the entertainment industry regarding body image. She tells the story in a way that makes it fairly obvious, so it’s not a crazy theory.

Then came This Is Us, which allegedly included a clause in her contract requiring her to gradually lose weight in tandem with the journey of her character, Kate. It probably depends on the day you asked her if that was inspiring or oppressive. It’s obvious that the show made her visible, and visibility brought attention for which she wasn’t always ready.

Metz declared in April 2025 that she had shed 100 pounds once more, this time as a result of regular strength training and what she called a sincere change in her body image. She told the Daily Mail, “I want to be strong, and I want to age the best way that I can.” Not a scale number. Not a size for a dress. power. She seemed to have finally discovered a structure for this that wasn’t based on punishment.

Then another announcement was made in August 2026. She partnered with Ro, a digital health company that provides these treatments, and began taking a GLP-1 medication. Some parts of the internet had opinions, as was to be expected. To her credit, Metz didn’t appear all that interested in controlling those responses. “Nobody is in my body every day,” she wrote in comments that went viral on Reddit. “Nobody’s gone through the trauma I’ve gone through.”

Her justifications were specific and personal, including perimenopause, a family history of obesity, and years of unsuccessful attempts at treatment. “I’m not getting any younger,” she stated bluntly to People. She added that she doesn’t have a target weight in mind. She continues to work out with a trainer, gain muscle, and continue to learn as she goes. There isn’t a neat conclusion because the story isn’t finished, which is arguably the most human aspect of the entire narrative.

When viewed from the outside over a period of more than fifteen years, Metz’s journey truly demonstrates how inadequate the discourse surrounding weight loss typically is. The before-and-after picture is what we want. The decisive transformation, the one approach, is what we want. Metz continues to make that more difficult. She takes medication, loses weight, gains it, loses it again, refuses to set goals, and is open about why at every stage. The trauma was genuine. It was a real struggle. The GLP-1 is genuine. The fact that none of it is straightforward is equally important.

It’s difficult to ignore the fact that those who know the least about her real life are also the ones who criticize her decisions the most. They’re not in her doctor’s notes, she herself stated. Her inherited health issues are unknown to them. Only the surface is visible to them. For her part, Metz appears to have reconciled with that difference, which may be the biggest change of all, more than any number on a scale.

She's spent years eating her way across the UK — from roadside chippies to countryside gastropubs — and writing about what she finds there with the kind of honest enthusiasm that doesn't require a Michelin star to appreciate good food. At Friar Street Kitchen, Tiffany covers everything from everyday cooking questions and British supermarket staples to the bigger conversations happening around food, health, and how we eat. Her writing tends to start in the kitchen and end up somewhere more interesting — because that's usually where food takes you if you pay attention. When she's not testing recipes or digging into the latest food trend, she's probably debating the correct way to make a proper cup of tea.
