Gemma Collins Weight Gain Truth: What the Media Never Told You About Her Lifelong Battle

Gemma Collins has always drawn attention, and not always for the best reasons. She was a young Essex woman navigating a body that didn’t behave as she expected it to long before she became the cultural force known simply as The GC. Everything changed when she was diagnosed with PCOS in her twenties. She was thin and gullible one vacation. Her relationship with her own body completely changed after doctors informed her that she had polycystic ovary syndrome shortly after she returned.

It’s possible that the majority of viewers of Gemma on TOWIE were unaware of the extent to which the tabloid headlines about her size concealed medical reality. Even tho she was frequently the target of cruel body-related trolling, she overcame it and continued to advocate for body confidence while discreetly battling her own weight issues. It’s more difficult than it seems to maintain that level of public grace while struggling in private. She tried everything, including a hypnotherapist who persuaded her to have a gastric band placed and a £5,000-per-week juice camp, but nothing helped her lose the weight. The tabloids dutifully recorded every oscillation in the yo-yo cycle.

She wrote that people are not always overweight due to the stereotypical reasons people assume, addressing the weight gain issue head-on and encouraging compassion for PCOS sufferers. Compared to most celebrity body statements, that post received a different response. It was particular. It was irritated. It was as if someone had spent years practicing this speech in her head before finally speaking it aloud.

After using Yazen’s weight-loss app and prescription medication for two months, Gemma began 2025 two sizes down. She described it as something that had completely changed her life, calming the incessant chatter about food that had followed her around for years. The continuous noise is a detail that conveys more information than any before-and-after picture could. That description is instantly recognizable to anyone who has battled their relationship with eating. Dress sizes are not the only factor. It was never the case.

However, the trip wasn’t without its difficulties. A gallbladder attack forced her to stop taking Mounjaro weight-loss injections, which she had been taking in anticipation of her I’m A Celebrity comeback. The very real physical risks associated with increasing dosages too quickly are the part of the GLP-1 story that isn’t always featured in glossy magazines. She disclosed that she had to stop receiving the injections due to health concerns before going into the South African jungle. It’s not easy to stop taking a medication you’ve grown accustomed to, especially before a stressful televised challenge. In the excitement of the weight-loss story, it seems like this detail is overlooked.

Thus, what transpired in the jungle is almost poetic. She lost an impressive first four pounds while living on the program’s infamously basic rations of rice and beans in the South African camp. She told OK! Magazine, “When they weighed me, I’d lost 1st 4lb.” No injections, no apps. Very little food, just heat and insects. She appeared genuinely taken aback. The majority of viewers most likely were as well.

Gemma was 3.5 stones lighter by the end of 2025 than she was at the start of her journey, and she expressed her amazement at the altered reflection in the mirror. However, she has taken care to avoid portraying it as a vanity project. She told herself that being as healthy as possible was more important than appearing extremely slender. Given how cruelly the media has historically treated her body as public property, this distinction is crucial.

She also disclosed that she had entered perimenopause in November 2025, encouraging her followers to pay attention to their bodies and explaining that her symptoms had led her to believe that her hormones weren’t working properly. One more level, one more challenge, one more chapter in a nonlinear health journey. It’s difficult to ignore the fact that Gemma Collins has been battling on several fronts at once over the years, including PCOS, media attention, and now hormonal changes that would subtly derail anyone.

The story of Gemma Collins’ weight gain was never really about her weight. It was about a woman navigating her body’s uncontrollable negative effects in public for years while cameras and tabloids watched. Since making her debut on TOWIE in 2011, she has been incredibly open about her journey toward fitness and health, never holding back when demonstrating the effort she has put in. The most intriguing aspect of her is, in a sense, her candor. Whether the recent medical advancements are a permanent turning point or just the most recent development in a longer narrative is still up for debate. However, the cacophony in her mind appears to be quieter for the time being. And that is progress by any standard.
